Well, guess what. It’s Wednesday and I said that there would be a surprise. If you didn’t figure it out by the title, there are two npcs in this post instead of one. Rejoice, for I have worked at least twice as hard for this post. It has been 4 weeks since I started this blog, actually a little more than 4, but I wanted to thank any and all that have checked it out. Ok, I’ll stop rambling. Now go check out those corns.
Auris, The Racist Unicorn
Introduction
Within the enchanted forest, home to the fey and the kindhearted, a white and purple blur can be found gliding across its leafy trails. It is the protector of this forest and calls it home, along with any creature pure of heart. It is the unicorn Auris, he just happens to be racist.
Info
- Appearance:
- General: Auris is a unicorn and looks like one. His head is adorned with golden ivory, a sparkling mane, and silver eyes. While he has a pure white hide his mane and other hair is that of a dark purple.
- Personality: Auris is a caring being and takes effort to protect and help the innocent and good-natured. Despite this he has a rather harsh way of speaking, but only the words not the tone. He could be cursing you but still sound like an angel.
- Quirk: Auris hates being compared to the horses that unicorns resemble. He hates horses and believes them to be lesser beings. They are weak and not worth his time (i.e. he’s racist against horses).
- Note: You can decide that this includes horse-like creatures like centaurs.
- History:
- Summoning: Auris was summoned by a good-natured god to help restore a devastated region after a large conflict.
- Restoration: Auris spent many decades building up that destroyed forest that his god tasked him with. Eventually succeeding and calling it home.
- Poachers: Many a poacher would come to steal his horn. They would come with horses and weapons. While he had some diffculty dealing with the people that came to kill him he could always get rid of the horses with one kick. Eventually he came to look down on the mounts of the poachers.
Drop-In
Auris could be dropped into any enchanted forest as its protector. Also, you can forgo him being a protector of a forest and give him another divine purpose. This could include being a mount of a paladin, a protector of a person, or some other holy duty that a god could have given him.
Plot Hooks
Auris is plenty strong himself and would not normally ask for help from the likes of adventures unless he was in dire need. Despite this he is not above asking for their help with simple tasks that he does not have the time to take care of. Some examples being:
- Asking adventuers to find a horse for him to race to prove that he is better than all horse-kind
- If you use this, I would have Auris teleport to win if necessary.
- During a more dire time Auris could task adventurers with helping save some creatures out of his reach.
Erica, The Pompous Mini-Corn
Introduction
The wandering and glamorous Erica travels across the country with the help of the followers of the god that sent her down. She travels to war-torn countries, desolate villages, and bandit-ridden undercities. She does this ti bring the violence to an end and introduce peace, as long as they respect her beauty, and she gets her daily manicure.
Info
- Appearance:
- General: Erica is the size of a pony and is on the bigger side. She has a pure white coat accompanied with golden, silk hair. Her hair is soft and extremely nice feeling as she constantly gets it taken care of by her followers.
- Personality: Erica is tired of people causing problems. She believes that people can live a good life without turning evil and those that do it out of fun are the worst. She helps all that she can and acts in a way befitting a being sent by a god. While she takes care to help normal and good people, she does not care about those that turned to evil. The only thing she grants them is the right to life as she refuses to kill.
- Quirk: Erica believes that she is worth worship for how cute she is. This results in her being weak to compliments. She also expects people to treat her very well.
- History:
- Summoning: Erica was summoned into the temple of her god. She stayed there for a while until being tasked by her god to travel the world and bring peace. Erica brought the people that she liked the most with her on the journey.
- Peace Treaty: The first act of the great, her opinion, Erica was stopping a war between two tribes. While these tribes were not the size of a country, they were still big and were causing mayhem and death in the area they decided to settle their conflict. With the help of her followers, Erica forced the chiefs of the tribes to talk without being able to fight, using her powers. After they talked, they were able to come to an understanding and stopped the fighting.
- Undercity Cleaner: Erica now travels to different parts of civilization with her followers to take down criminals and bring them to justice.
Drop-In
As Erica is a mini-corn, she travels instead of staying in a singular area, like a unicorn. This allows you to drop her in anywhere that there is some outbreak of violence that needs to be stopped. You could also have her resting in a peaceful area on her way to another destination.
While you could have Erica traveling by herself, I think that it would be best to have her traveling with a posse, as it will allow for some interesting character interactions. There could be a paladin fed up with her attitude, a priest that loves taking care of her, or a nun that tries her hardest to be unaffected by the unheavenly behavior of a mini-corn obsessed with her looks.
Plot Hooks
While Erica is powerful, and she’ll let you know it, she sometimes needs help to bring peace to an area. She could ask adventurers to help with some of the following scenarios:
- Taking down a large group that comprises the criminal element in a city.
- The players will be asked to refrain from killing anyone
- Taking a peace treaty to the enemy force as Erica stays near the battlefield to ensure the fighting does not break out again.
- The players will be asked to refrain from killing anyone.
