Homebrew Monster: Losquito

Last week was the for the made-up holiday of Hogsgiving. This week I decided to have a creature that could deal with the meat sweats of the people after they finish their Hogsgiving feast.  Let me introduce the Losquito and its swarm variant.

If you are interested in Hogsgiving these are the links to last week’s posts: Thunderback Boar, Hogsgiving Traditions, and Hogsgiving Tables.

Losquito Lore

Also known as the licking mosquito, the losquito is a different type of mosquito that licks or sucks water. It is a common pest that can be found anywhere within the world. It seeks moisture, especially from the living, but it can seek it out elsewhere if necessary.

Desert Delicacy: In some places the losquito is treated more as a product than a pest. Some use it to get rid of the sweat the covers them while working, but the most common use is as a snack in the desert. Since the losqutio is full of water, the parched mouths of those traveling sandy dunes will search for them.

Losquito Swarm Lore

While the common losquito is a nuisance, a swarm of them are extremely dangerous. They scour the land looking for the moisture of the living, and when they find it, they leave nothing left, except for a withered, dehfrated husk.

Swarm Born: While losquitos are natural creatures, swarms of them are not. The Queen of Swarm used her pheromones to gather these creatures and guided them to cause havoc throughout the land. With the Queen now gone, the remaining swarms search the land to quench their never-ending thirst.

Notes

The fatigued condition is a made of condition that I thought would work well with the Losquito Swarm. I wanted a balance between exhaustion and just damage, so I created this condition. A creature cannot be fatigued and have exhaustion. This means if a creature has the fatigued condition and gets exhaustion, the fatigued condition will disappear and be replaced by the exhaustion.

The fatigued condition can be recovered from by taking a short rest. Long rests also recover a creature from the condition.

Fatigued Condition

  • A fatigued creature has their speed reduced by 10 ft.
  • A fatigued creature has disadvantage on strength checks
  • A fatigued creature has the amount they can carry halved
