Today, I introduce the Wolf Tribe to you. This tribe is allied with the Giant Wolf Spider and takes many things from the lifestyle of the creatures. In the two following sections I go over the hunting practices of the tribe and the secret method that the tribe uses to train their Arachni Trappers. Enjoy the lore and if you are wondering what the Arachni Trapper statblock looks like, check it out here: Homebrew Monster: Arachni Trapper.
Hunting Practices
The Wolf Tribe takes after their allies, the Giant Wolf Spider, when it comes to hunting. They are patient and wait for the prey to come to them. Once their prey comes into range they leap out, surprising it, and injecting their poison or spear it with their legs. While the Wolf Tribe has access to webs as a hunting tactic, they do not normally make use of it.
The Wolf Tribe calls lush forests their homes. They prefer forests that have enough lush greenage for them to hide themselves from their prey and intruders. In these forests, the Wolf Tribe tries to hunt a variety of animals. They will hunt herbivores, but they have found that they are harder to hunt and sometimes have annoying defense mechanisms. Instead, the Wolf Tribe prefers to hunt carnivores. They enjoy the challenge and like that the creatures that are used to being the top of the food chain let their guard down.
Secret Methods
The Wolf Tribe train their Arachni uses a special technique that allows them to sharpen their legs. This allows them to deal more damage with their legs and to dig into the ground to make traps and hiding places in the earth of their hunting grounds. To do this the Wolf Tribe holds two secret methods: the sharpening technique and the digging technique.
The sharpening technique makes use of a special stone that is found within the forests that the Wolf Tribe calls home. The Arelith stone is a stone naturally imbued with healing power. While humans could make use of this for some alchemical use, the Arachni made use of it by hitting things. By using this stone to sharpen their legs it heals the legs instead of injures them, and thanks to the instant healing the legs will not revert back to their normal shape.
The digging method comes more from training then a secret or special method. The training consists of constant training of the legs that cross the back of the Arachni. They train their legs to be able to deal with the effort of digging and to be able to do it fast. Using their sharpened legs, the Arachni are able to dig into the ground fast and swiftly that allows the Trapper to be able to make pitfalls even while running.
